7. MEDICAL
Malaria was unusually severe In October and November
and many deaths are believed to have occurred, The usual out-
break of smallpox occurred In December.
8. POPULATION
Some Idea of the present population of the Truclal
Coast has been acquired through the Issue of ration cards.
After due deductions have been made for the Invariable
exaggerations which the local people make when describing their
families and dependants for rationing purposes it is probable
that the population of the following towns is as recorded below:-
Sharjah • • • • • • • • 15,000
Has al Khaimah • • • • 5,000
Um al Qaiwain • • • • 5,000
AJman • • • • • • • • 4,000.
