communications.
(a) Land. The condition of the main road to
Shiraz, which was no longer maintained by British authorities,
deteriorated and though passable without.much difficulty, was
in need -of repair and maintenance by the close of the year.
The exceptionally heavy autumn rains caused small landslides
on the .'Jalu and Ituauk passes which were repaired, but not
without holding up traffic* particularly A.I.O.C. tankers,
for some days, The road was occasionally insecure in the
first half of the year but improved thereafter.
The main road in Bushire town continued to deteriorate
until its condition became so bad that by the end of the year
the Municipality was obliged to take up the work of repair.
This has commenced from the town end and will continue up to
the suburb of Sangi.
Travel on the unmade roads to Tangistan and Dashti
was occasionally subject to petty holdups but on the roads
north towards Hiat Daud was secure.
(b) Sea. Mail steamers were few and far between
at the beginning of the year but an improvement set in and by
the end of the year two and occasionally three ships a month
were calling. Ships however showed a tendency to bunch
together instead of being spaced regularly. The M.V. Resang,
which had maintained a circular run inside the Gulf approximately
once a fortnight since 1942, was withdrawn towards the end of
the year, A.I.O.C. tugs continued to assist communications
with IChorramshahr and the North.
