dhows with a tonnage of -3,433 tons called at Bushire and
167 dhows yrith a tonnage of 3,955 left the port. Part of
this trade was between Bushire and Bahrain and Trucial
Coast ports and conducted on a barter system. Livestock,
ghl, fruit, and vegetables were exchanged for sugar, tea,
and general goods, This arrangement was mutually
convenient, since supplies of livestock, ghi, etc’. 1.were
greatly needed on the Arab coast to feed populations
swollen by the influx of labour for vital war construction
projects while the Persian coast lacked sugar, tea, and
all kinds of consumer goods.
