during the year. The beacons on the Khasifa and Saya
Islets off Kuharraq were found damaged and in view of
the difficulty of repairing them and the fact that there
are several conspicuous objects ashore near both these
islets, the beacons are no longer being maintained.
On the night of the 17th August the S.S. "Pitt
River" on route to Italy with a full cargo of Bapco
potroleum products ran aground on the Shah Allan Shoal,
After discharging part of the cargo she was refloated
and continued her voyage. Earlier in the year the U.S.
Navy tanker "Cacapon" ran aground on the same shoal.
The Lighting and Buoying Committee had under considera
tion the adequate lighting of this shoal.

17. ADMINISTRATION OF JUSTICE.
(i) Agency Courts.
Civil and criminal suits entertained during the
year totaled 1,666 and 412 respectively, as compared with
/1,129.................
