               On roceipt of your confidential tolcgrnm of tlio 26th April, I called on fho
           Sheikh of Bahrein to cxccuto an agreomont which would unconditionally
           and absolutely prohibit the traffic in arms to and from tho islands of Bahrein,
           and I havo now tho houour to forward, for the information of tho Government
           of India, copios of tho agreomont ontorod into by tho Sheikh and of a procla­
           mation and notification giving it offoct, aud making it gonorally known.

           Translation of Proclamation from Slraikh Esa Lin Ali A1 Khalifa, Chief of Bahroin, dated
                              8th Zil Ilijjah 1310 (30th April 1808).
               Bo it known to all who sco this that British-and Torsinn vpssols*of*war have
           permission to search vessels, carrying thoir and our flags in Bahroin territorial
           wators, and to coufiscato all arms and ammunition (weapons of war) in them,
           if thoso arms and amnvuuiton aro intended for Indian or Persian ports or tho
           islands of Bahroin. Bahroin vossels, found iu Indian and Porsian waters by
           British and Persian vossols-of-war, suspoctod to contain arms and ammunition
           for Indian and Porsian ports and tho islands of Bahroin, aro liable to bo searched
           by tho said vcssols, and all such arms and ammunition found in thorn will
           bo confiscated as property of tho Slate.

            Translation of Notification by Shoikb of Bahrein, dated 8th Zil Ilijjah 1315 (30th April
                                         1398).

              Bo it known to nil who sco this that, whereas wo havo already forbidden
           tho salo of arms and ammunition to our subjects in tho island of Bahrein by our
           notification, dated 13th Safar 1313, January 1800, and whereas tlicro is  reason
           to think that, notwithstanding our prohibition, many arms and much ammu­
           nition aro imported into Bahrein for the purpose of being exported therefrom to
           British Indian and Porsian ports, whero such importation is prohibited, and
           whereas wo havo resolved to do all that lies in our powor to assist tho British
           and Persian Governments in putting a stop to this illegal traffic, wo hereby
           dcclaro that from tho dato of this notification tho importation of arms and
           ammunition into tho islands of Bahrein, and the exportation of thesamo tkcro-
          forrn, is absolutely prohibited.
              All arms and ammunition in futuro imported into tho islands of Bahroin
          or exported thorofrom will bo seized and confiscated as property of tho Stato.
