Om. day when I was speaking al)«、ut tho (loath ot Christ, a
Mohammcclau woman c.\claimc<l **Josus ditl not «lio/' I was quite
taken aback. I said. ”()lu \os he did. we know this from the
I lolv Scriptiirc.s.” The .M(^liammc<lans think that Christ 山(1 mu
die, hut that some one who was like liim (lied. *riii> woman has
not iutorrupted attain, but l cannot help feeling that >lic is criii-
cisini^ a i^cod U as she sits by and listens. Slic seems to bo an
intelligent woman, and has perhaps hoard coiur«)\crsy on the sub-
jeet. Some Catliolic w^mon who conic arc about as ignorant as
the Moliammcdans and just as unable to answer a simple ques-
tion on the Scriptures. One of these women was mv nurse this
summer. She is a washerwoman usually, but as she had had a
little experience as a child’s nurse and I could get no or.o else, I
employed her. One morning recently she was at the dispensary
and had apparently listened attentively, although perhaps her
tliou^lits wore far away. The subject of my talk was Christ
overcoming the world/' After I thought I luul done pretty well
explaining in tlio he.^t Arabic I ouild command about Christ con
quering Satan and overcumiuo- death, etc.. I turned to this woman
and said. *'.\(isco. wlio overcame the world?” With earnestness
she immediately replied. ^Satan." I said. woe to 11 s
Satan overcame the world. Xo. Christ overcame tlic world,’’ and
then I explained it all again. I think really Misco spoke without
thinking, but it seemed hard and yet comical to get such an an-
swer after all mv trying to get the idea into their heads,
Thev arc like little children : one has to talk* so simply to
them, and vet it is hard to do so. Incidents and illustrations keep
their attention best. One woman was quite attentive at first.
Then, after a day or two. she became quite troublesome, talking:
almost all the time, even during prayers. I managed (with aid
from above) to keep patient with her, for I felt it was Satan try
ing to keep her from listening, and that she was angry because
                             was always talking- about Christ.
This morning a Catholic woman whose attention it is gener
ally very difficult to get, listened quite well to the story of the
creation and the fall. She said tiiat she had a bov who can read.
