43. This was indeed an imperfection that required remedy. Captain Felix
vide Captain Felix ]on«s' ropon oi tour, dated Jones, accordingly, when he proceeded on
June 6.1858. a tour of the Gulf in the month of May
1858, having the opportunity afforded him of meeting the newly installed Imam
Sayyed Thowcyni, determined to strive and obtain further concessions from His
Highness. The incompleteness of the treaties for slave suppression concluded
between Her Most Gracious Majesty the Queen of England and his deceased
father Sayyed Said were brought under discussion. His Highness’ feelings
were appealed to, and, after three days' negotiations, Captain Felix Jones had the
satisfaction to obtain His Highness' seal to a convention conceding powers to
all British vessels of war—
"To seize and confiscate all vessels the property of himself and his subjects without
restriction, wherever they might be found engaged in carrying slaves on the sea.”
44. We now proceed to Part III, which is to shew the fruit of our labours in
the repression of slave trade.
Our object will, we conceive, be best attained by recording a simple list
of the prizes made, and of the releases effected, noting by whom, and under what
circumstances, for each year. This plan we shall accordingly adopt, and we
append.therefore “ Part 111 " in the shape of a register as proposed.
