in Bahrain, in paragraph 1 0 of which Hie Excellency referrod

an economic Gurvey of Bahrain which his staff were under
taking with the rcGourcjeG at their diopo6al. It was hoped
that sufficient statistical information would be forthooming
from local sources for U6 to present a picture of the
Shaikhdom* 0 economy, v/l ioh would! enable us to 6ee more
clearly what measures ore now nepessary in the economic field*
2. Unfortunately the nany enquiries which wo have made
in Bahrain reveal a con plot0 absence of the nocessai'y
statistical information. The Customs Department produce

monthly figures of imports and re-exports by value, but this
is the sum total of economic statistics produced by tho
Bahrain Government. Tlie Director of Customs confessed

himself unable to produce further, more detailed, statistics
and the Secretariat has. failed to produce any useful
i
information. V/e have al60 becn( disappointed in our hopes

gf extracting from the Bahrain Petroleum Company any firm
estimate of the future of oil in Bahrain. After referring
ovjr request to his head office in New York, all tho Resident
Vice-President was able to tell us was that oil production
