                                       APPENDIX I.

NOTES ON THE WORKING OF THE RESIDENCY DISPENSARY,
                              BUSHIRE, FOR THE YEAR 1935.
Major J.J. Rooney, I.M.S., held charge of the appointment of
Residency Surgeon from the 1st January until he proceeded on leave to the
United Kingdom on the 18th June. He resumed charge on the 18th
October and held it until the end of the year.
1st Class Assistant Surgeon M.L.A., Steele, I.M.D., was in sub-
charge of the Dispensary throughout the year. He officiated as Residency
Surgeon from 18th Juno until 17th October.
The early part of the year was mild and the rains were up to average
and well distributed. The summer was one of the longest and hottest on
record, and it was almost as trying to the natives of Bushire as it was to
foreign residents. The hot weather commenced in May and it did not
begin to cool down until the end of October. From June onwards the
humidity was constantly high and there was very little difference between
              the day and night temperatures.
No diseases appeared in epidemic form.
The number of indoor patients and out-door attendances in comparison
with those of 1934, were as follows :—
                                    In-patients Out-patients. Operations.
                    1934 22 11,353 214
                    1935 6 11,580 215
Malaria, as usual, was the most prevalent disease and accounted for
              nearly one-third of the attendances.
