VII.—LOCAL POLITICS.
European War.—The inhabitants of this district are a very poor class on
the whole and have no interest in political matters. The officials and a small
merchant class, however, show some interest in the progress of the European
conflict. There are now three or four radio receiving sets in Bandar Abbas
and the latest news is obtained from the news bulletins in Persian issuing'
from Ankara and Gel-many.
The compulsory absence of the Hansa Line steamers has affected the
trade and customs receipts of the port. Otherwise the outbreak of hostilities
has had no marked effect here.
