ADMINISTRATION REPORT FOR THE ARABISTAN CONSULATE
FOR THE YEAR 1912.

Major Haworth was on leave during the month of February, during which
time Captain Grey officiated. Captain Grey was away from Headquarters
in connection with Bakhtiari affairs, from the 14th April till the 20th
October.
Mr. W. N. Siqueira continued as Dragoman and Mirza Ahmed Khan aa
Mirza.
Ijlol-es-Saltaneh arrived at Shuchtar early in June and took up his ap.

would prove a capable mam He turned out, however, to be as weak and
corrupt as the ordinary Persian Governor, and, being without force, was unable
to eucct any improvement in the situation at Shuslitar, Dizful or the surround­
ing country.
In a very short time he came into opposition with the people through hii
desire for “ mudakhil ” or illicit income. Soon after his arrival he sent to the
Shaikh for assistance to quell local disturbances, which assistance the Shaikh
refused until such time a3 the demand should be confirmed by the Persian
Government.
Ijlal-es-Sultaneh succeeded iu maintaining a fluctuating Government
throughout the year and still continues in his position.
Yaqar-ul-ifulk was appointed Deputy-Governor and took up his duties
at the beginning of April. He continued in that post until September, when
he was dismissed, Mnayid-ul-Mamalik being appointed in his place.
On the Customs Department taking over charge of the Revenues the Go­
vernor-General presented his accounts which were found to be quite impossible.
It appeared that he had already drawn considerably more than he was entitled
to and his accounts were still under review at the end of the year.
Mustaufi-ul-Mulk was relieved of his duties as Rais-i-Malieh and arrived
from Ahwaz on the 10th December on his

Amir Khan, a British subject, arrived from Tehran on the 21st November
to take up the appointment but has not as yet succeeded in doing so, owing to
the Belgians having assumed charge of the Revenue Department and having
placed the work in the hands of their own men.

from Tehran on the 12th January but
