This Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty in the Cotswolds has distinctive limestone soils formed under ancient sea beds that are ideal for viticulture and noteworthy in the English wine scene, creating their own rock story. Knowing that some of the most renowned regions of the world are based on limestone soils Fiona was enticed to leave the legal profession and follow her heart into the hills. From a single, one acre, experimental planting of Bacchus vines in 2007 this award-winning estate now has 55 acres under vine across three sites, all on spectacular steep limestone slopes with stunning views. Their vineyard site in Stonehouse may even be on the same site as the one the mentioned in the Domesday book of 1086. The soils there are clay and limestone and allow Sauvignon Blanc grapes to thrive - a rarity in England.
Growing over a dozen grape varieties, they produce a range of world class white, rosé, red and sparkling wines. The wines are focussed on high quality fruit and are characteristic of cool climate wines, often aromatic, always expressive and elegant.
Best sellers are their signature Bacchus a mouth-watering aromatic wine combining elements of fine Loire Valley Sauvignon with New World characteristics, full of zesty citrus with hallmark elderflower and gooseberry, a touch of minerality, freshly cut herb notes and honeysuckle.
In the sparkling range their Cotswold Classic with enticing aromas of peach blossom, lovely crisp apple and ripe orchard fruit flavours is a delicious crowd pleaser a perfect aperitif. For the perfect summer’s toast with English wine try the enchanting Rosé Brut brimming with aromas of raspberry and strawberry or raise a glass of the Reserve Cuvee a classic Pinot Noir rich champagne style blend, matured over two years, with great complexity and a lingering finish.
