Approach

We have a passion for creating community.

Not all beautiful buildings are created equal, particularly as they relate to schools. Our approach
first priority is how to make the design bring the best possible student engagement,
because relationships are what take the learning experience from good to great. Spaces
where community happens—from outdoor classrooms and gardens to collaborative
learning areas—get a lot of attention from the KSQ Team. Dining Halls, Student Centers,
Art Centers, and Media Centers often become the focal points of campuses, reflecting
05 the unique personality and vision of your institution. They are the places where students, 06
teachers, alumni, and guests come to be creative and innovative and take advantage
of all the resources available on campus. KSQ is fully versed in the technical aspects of
these high-performing spaces and will work with you to find subtle qualities that will truly
make your buildings unique. In fact, we’re so passionate about designing spaces that
create community, we built our corporate mission statement around it.

Our approach is rooted in a deep understanding of how design affects human connections.
We know that good solutions can only come from a thorough definition of the problem;
therefore, we seek first to understand before being understood—and value the process of
discovery.

We believe in collaboration.

We value a participatory design process, knowing a great idea can come from anyone at the
table. This ensures that pride of authorship is shared by everyone—from the client to the
newest member of the team.

We believe in good design.

Innovation and creativity are at the core of who we are and what we do. We bring creative
solutions to every angle of a project—and look at old problems in new ways that affect how
people experience your buildings.
