                Importing and Exporting

General notes on exporting and importing

Web Designer Premium offers a wide range of import and export options.

Firstly, it is important to note the distinction between saving and exporting files:

                • SAVING deals with storing your work so that you can open it and work on it at a later
date. Xara Web Designer Premium saves your work in the .web file format. Think of
this as the "master document" format.
                • EXPORTING deals with converting to other supported formats. Exporting allows you to
                  use and distribute your designs.

                Recommended formats
The universal export formats, that can be read by the widest range of programs and used
on the web are the bitmap formats, GIF, PNG and JPEG. These are also guaranteed to
look exactly as you see on screen in Xara Web Designer Premium. PNG is
recommended for web graphics and JPEG for photos.

                Web Designer Premium and HTML5

Web Designer Premium now provides increased compatibility with HTML5. This is
entirely automatic without the user having to do anything or know anything about HTML
                coding.

What this actually means is a more efficient and faster website download. For example,
many graphics features such as background panels, rectangles, rounded rectangles and
objects with shadows that were previously converted to graphics on export are now
exported as native HTML features. This makes for higher quality, and resolution
independent images (they scale when you zoom the web page).

Features that are now exported as HTML5 include:

                • Rectangles, rounded rectangles, with optional simple outlines, linear graduated fills
                  and simple flat transparency.
                • Rotated or skewed rectangles.
                • Box Shadows (black or colored shadows).
                • Text with shadows.
                • Page backgrounds simple graduated fills (or more complex ones made up from the
                  above objects).
                • Tiling textures (bitmap fills) for rectangles and backgrounds.
