WRITING ENHANCEMENT
Grade Level: Third Grade and Above
Prerequisite: Writing Exercises
Skill Developed: Ability to write intelligent complex, compound, and compound-complex sentences and
unified, coherent short paragraphs.
Objective: To construct error-free, grammatically-correct written sentences that contain two or
more vocabulary words from the same card.
How to Play: In this game players pick the words they want to use.
Note: Being that this game develops the necessary discipline to play the final game, it should be played
first. Were it not this way, the spoken sentences of the latter game would often lack clarity,
precision, and eloquence.
Scoring: One point is awarded for each sentence or short paragraph containing two or more vocabulary
words that shows ability to write cohesively.
RHETORIC EXERCISES
Grade Level: Third Grade and Above
Prerequisite: Declamatory Exercises and Writing Enhancement
Skill Developed: Ability to declaim intelligent complex, compound, compound-complex sentences and
unified, coherent short paragraphs.
Objective: To create the aforementioned types of sentences and speak them in an appropriate
manner that reflects understanding of two or more vocabulary words used therein.
How to Play: Except for speaking rather than writing, this game is played the same way as Writing
Enhancement.
Scoring: Points are awarded in the same manner as with Declamatory Exercises.
