Understanding – Julia visits her mother in a mental institution.
Tears run down her mother’s face as she reaches out for her
daughter’s hand.
Julia sees her mother’s powerlessness. She feels her moth-
er’s pain and understands her mother is victimized by her own
illness, entangled in her own grief, and searching for safety and
solace.
Julia is overwhelmed with compassion. She reaches back for
her mother’s hand, and a daffodil appears. She hands it to her
mother, a sign of her forgiveness.
