27Sustainable Economic Growth Demands Housing: Addressing Housing Insecurity and Homelessness in KansasRedbud CConvener: Ianne Dickinson, Franklin County CommissionerPresenters: Christina Ashie Guidry, Director of Policy and Planning, United Community Services; and Matt Lowe, Director of Community Impact, United Way of the PlainsThe Kansas Housing Advocacy Network (KHAN) is a coalition of partners, representing every region of Kansas, which provides education and advocacy on best practices and policy to increase housing security and end homelessness in Kansas. KHAN has presented evidence-based policy recommendations to legislators, taken part in news and television specials, and hosted educational events across the state. Kansas data demonstrates that Kansas has a housing shortage, particularly of attainable and workforce housing. Kansas%u2019 inadequate housing supply holds back economic growth %u2013 leading to employment shortages and increased homelessness. KHAN will present data on the causes, trends, and scope of housing insecurity and homelessness in Kansas compared to other states, and identify the existing coordinated response, recent legislative proposals, and evidence-based policy recommendations to increase housing supply, improve housing security, and end homelessness in Kansas. These policy recommendations can be applied at the county and state level. KHAN recommends attendees also join the KHRC presentation on housing programs as a next step in accessing program support for expanding regional housing opportunities.
