1 Researchers at a local university are planning a study to identify effective study

techniques. One technique they will explore is self-testing. Results from previous
studies show that if students will test themselves before taking an exam, they will do
better on the exam.

4 Researchers believe that successful learners use other strategies, and the study
will identify those strategies. Before the researchers choose the participants, the

volunteers will complete a survey about their study habits. The researchers will then
select volunteers for the study. The experiment will begin as soon as there will be 50

volunteers. When the students will work in their assigned groups, they will keep logs of
8
their study habits, test scores, and end-of-term grades.

9 After researchers collect and analyze the data, they will make specific
10
recommendations. If the study results are significant, the university will provide
strategy training for its professors. Researchers believe students become better learners

if teachers will use these strategies in their classrooms. If researchers are able to identify
additional strategies that successful students use, they will also implement workshops for

students. However, researchers will not recommend any curriculum changes unless the

results of the study will be significant.
