putting it together, we’ve outlined it and decided that it’s going to be there, but we haven’t finished the project. So I can’t sit here and lie to you and be like, “Season 3 is gonna be like this...” I don’t know what season 3 is gonna look like and I have
to let the people digest season 2. But
what you can expect from this season [that’s different from the first season] is that the first season was done more on topics of experience. People’s pet peeves, videos of living in China, the things that people liked about living in China, uh, dating, and stories that could only
happen if you were while you were in China...very
topical shared
experiences.
This time, I’m focusing on people’s professions mostly. People who have sports careers, teachers,
students, and
what it’s like to
be in a classroom
type of thing. What it’s like to be a
student who takes classes in Chinese, what
it’s like to be a foreign exchange student. I interviewed some members of the LGBT community who were comfortable in talking about their experiences as it relates to dating and existing in China and them talking to Chinese people and how they feel about that. You’ll get to see what it’s like to be in the export/import business. One big thing that’s new is that you’re gonna find out what it’s like to be Black in Hong Kong which is very different. What it’s like to be Black in the concepts of we can see you as Black, but maybe you don’t identify as
Black from the perspective of somebody that grew up in a Spanish-speaking country, they put their nationality BEFORE they put their ethnicity. That conversation will happen which shall be very interesting. You’ll get to see...MORE. Things go into more detail and maybe in upcoming seasons there will be even greater detail.
But like I said, I can point you to the next series and peep out what it’s like to be a Black
westerner in Colombia; a Black westerner in Brazil, and I
think all these things are going to mean a lot.
That direction will mean WAY more and
those different series will also explore the various topics
that come up amongst the cast. I’m an ethnographer, so I take the story as it’s presented to me, I don’t try to make the
story. Yes, I have an interview protocol that has questions, but the greatest
thing about being able to do what I do is that I get to just –really just
talk to people and get them to tell me their stories.
Why are they here? What keeps them here? How did they
get here? What does it look like for the future? All those different stories and experiences add up to a really dope series. The biggest thing you can just always expect from anything me and Marcus put together is that we’re making media for Black people.
