A personal artistic and inspirational approach to the exhibition collection.

The Vatican Museum collections and the Catholic Faith

Periods of history have borne out creation myths and stories in order to understand the collective position of humankind.
The Hellenistic period of philosophical thinking and interchange of philosophical constructs incorporated into the various religions, such as Hebrew and
subsequent revised accounts of Christianity . Equally, the Vatican Museum collections curate artefacts and objects that span periods and civilisations, it also
presents the numerous artistic expressions of the time.

The collection is a historical referencing and marker of where we collectively (as humanity), have travelled from.
The starting point of inspiration for this collection as a means to express the faith was, for me, the Sistine Chapel. In particular the panel depicting ‘God creating
Adam’ painted by Michelangelo commissioned by Pope Julius II {1503—1513}.

The singularity event termed ‘ex nihilo’ where science and theology can meet is implicit in the Sistine Chapel’s Genesis mystical narrative.

The Vatican collection can be seen as a dialogue wherein humankind is searching, reasoning and expressing its place within the cosmos in relation to a creative
       God.

Therefore; fundamentally to envision, portray and formulate a collection of exhibition paintings is to integrate faith within the collection. This in turn relates to the
Sistine Chapel and the depiction of ‘God creating Adam’ which acts as a two way perspective i.e. outwardly the creation of this particular universe and inwardly to
the existence of the ‘Being of God’ beyond space –time, in the continuing Being of God.
The creation of this universe and humankind as participants in the continual unfolding of Divine expression can be seen therefore as a mirror reflecting the Divine
       Absolute.
