Border Composition –Tewkesbury, Gloucestershire.
Envisioning Heaven Within Nature

The ‘Alter Realist’ composition was inspired during a visit to Tewksbury Abbey in Gloucestershire.
The composition primarily explores created nature; the cosmos formed out of the Being of God and an act of love and divine
blessing. The narrative can also be interpreted as symbolic of Motherhood and the gift of life to the world, through the incarnation
of a soul.

Within the composition, border flowers are visually interplayed with elements of stained glass from St Lawrence church, Lechlade
Gloucestershire, which further relates with light and colour. The abstracted nature of the glass creates a transitory feeling.

The background of Gothic architectural elements alludes to structure and longevity. The design and making of glass, the planting of
border plants, flowers and the fashioning of stone all represent collaborative creative acts within society in the expression of faith
and replication of beauty that is to be found in nature.

The statue of the Madonna and Christ child were referenced from a medieval church during a visit to Rome.
The Christ child holds the world in his hand, whilst the expression of his mother Mary, seems to be one of joy and fulfilment ; yet
her head is tilted towards her child suggesting her knowing of what the Christ child’s mission will be and what he would have to
live through.

Equally, from a human perspective and within all nature, motherhood is the universal bond and protective nurturing demonstrating

the selfless act of bringing a new human being / soul into this world of experience to partake in its collective dynamics and flux.

Any creative act is a giving of the self to the world, it is the world that either incorporates or rejects this gift in whatever form it
is expressed.
