‘The Cosmic Altar Piece’
Pontifical Palace - Castel Gandolfo
The Altar of the private chapel is the basis of this composition.
The powerful mystical imagery of the Madonna and Christ Child and the crucified Jesus forms a
cosmic expression that transcends time and space.
The Altar, (or any altar ) is considered a quantum interface in terms of time, space and exchange
of energies revealed through the mechanism of symbolism.
The Madonna portrayed is framed in gold relief. The face and hands of both mother and child are set
back into a flat plane which accentuates a sense of mystery.
The background patterning alludes to the created cosmos and is taken from an exhibit of opaque blue
glass (2nd - 1st century B.C) presented in the Gregorian Etruscan Museum.
The symbolic expression of the divine act of love for humankind {the crucifixion} spans and
connects with all creation.
