Originally the Statue Garden was part of Elizabeth’s Italian hillside setting, which was created in
                                                                               the early 1800’s after a tour of Italy with her husband John.

                                                                               It was in 1906 that violet the 8th Duchess revised Elizabeth’s Italian setting by creating a new
                                                                               Rose Garden and reworking the lower level to form the Statue Garden -both being in keeping
                                                                               with the Italian aesthetic.
                                                                               The early morning light created a visually enchanting scene. The effect of back lighting creating
                                                                               the merging of form and colour in shafts of light, along with the female statues depicting the Four
                                                                               Seasons which appear with their respective sculpted narrative of the season .

                                                                               The spring planting and vibrancy of blossom and freshness of new leaves animated the scene.
                                                                               The painting celebrates nature’s energy and vibrancy.
