P. 3
The experience of a place and its effect causing a lasting impression upon a person is dependent on the
relationship of the observer-partaker to the location. In many ways, the external presence of the world to
that of ourselves can be partly realised as a mirroring and discovery of our own inner essence.
At some level of consciousness we are looking to sum up our feelings.
A sense of place realised within the moment of engagement is unique to each person.
Through the experience there is an energy interchange between the appearance and dynamics held by the
place and the internal perspectives and evaluation at the unique point in time.
In this space–time universe, all that appears is transient in nature and therefore forms part of a state of
constant change, including within ourselves.
Therefore, the Genius Loci – {the spirit of a place} is transient and gives a sense of ourselves at anytime.
Locations that have been associated with our lives in significant and meaningful ways are held as
markers on life’s pathway experienced moments.
As with favourite pieces of music held in memory, on hearing a piece again at a later point past feelings
and energy levels are evoked. This also now may not hold any relevance or value. It may apply to any
exterior form and to the prevalent internal universe of our mind.
There are continuous shifts in our perception toward particular places. The world provides us with beauty,
joy and wonder through what is manifested either through nature, created by society, by individual
endeavour or collaboration of people. It is for us to behold, internalize and becomes part of our inner
world tapestry of living.
