INTERVIEW WITH THE HOMEOWNER

Q: What made you fall in love with this home?

A: This home ticked all the boxes when we were looking to move from our starter house, and it

had so much more. We immediately fell in love with the total curb appeal of the house – the

home’s Tudor-style exterior and the winding flagstone walkway that leads to the gorgeous

8’ arched front door. When we first walked into the house we were drawn to the welcoming

flow of the main level, with the arched entrances to the sunroom and dining room, and

of course the butterfly staircase. And we loved all the nooks – particularly the sunroom

and office off the dining room. The other big draw was the home’s size and options to

expand the living space. We wanted a house where we could establish a ‘home base’ for

our children’s entire school career, without needing to move or do a major addition to

                   accommodate our growing family.

Q: Please describe the renovation process.

A: The Loft: The home’s existing footprint allowed for easy renovations to add more of the

right type of living spaces we needed as a growing family. The first renovation was done

~2008 to convert part of the attic into ‘the Loft’. The large double-door closet allows it to

be used as a bedroom or as a multi-purpose space. We added 2 skylights and 2 full-size

windows to allow for an abundance of natural light, created a built-in bookshelf and added

an access door for additional storage space. The single-zone electric heat system can be

used as needed, which is more efficient than running off the main heating system. Insulating

the room not only allows it to maintain the heat and cold more efficiently, but also helps the

entire home to hold its temperature better – staying warmer in the winter and cooler in the
