AN INTERVIEW WITH
PROUD HOMEOWNERS OF 2 BAYBERRY LANE
WHY ARE YOU MOVING? ...
My husband’s employment took him to Atlanta in 2015. Initially, we wanted to
maintain our home in Westport, but our youngest child is now attending high school in
Atlanta, and our other children are either finished or finishing college, with substantially
fewer opportunities for us to gather as a family in Westport. It is with a heavy heart that
we’ve made the decision to sell ‘The Barn,’ although we know it will once again soon
become a memory factory for the next family that lives here.
TELL US ABOUT THE PROPERTY NEXT DOOR?
From the moment we closed on 2 Bayberry Lane, we had an interest in the history of the
house and adjacent properties. 2 and 4 Bayberry Lane were once part of the same parcel of
land. We dreamed about being able to one day own both properties to create a larger family
compound for in-laws and/or children and grandchildren visits in the future. 4 Bayberry
Lane faces Jennings Court, which is a cul de sac and perfect for kids to roam around and ride
bikes. We had many thoughts about the two properties, but a lot of time passed between
our original move here and when the property ultimately became available. Given my
husband’s employment relocation and our approaching “empty nester” status, we felt this
season in our lives was coming to an end. Perhaps our dreams would become someone
else’s! [Although it was not our intention to do so, we rented 4 Bayberry Lane for a few
months last year to a Westport couple who needed a place to live while renovating their
own home.]
WHAT WILL YOU MISS ABOUT THE NEIGHBORS/NEIGHBORHOOD?
Without a doubt, other than the home itself, we will miss most the convenience of our
home’s location to everything we needed or wanted. We can be anywhere important
in minutes! We could not be in a better location for some of the best schools available
(Long Lots Elementary, Bedford Middle School, and Staples High School). Stop and Shop,
Balducci’s, Whole Foods and Fresh Market are all just down the street, and the Greens
Farms train station is five minutes down the road. Mitchell’s is right down the street. The
beach and the Long Shore golf course and complex is just beyond that. We will miss
our most favorite spinning and fitness center, JoyRide Studio, and Rhodie’s passion
for doing your best. We will miss being able to walk across the street to The Hunt Club
for swimming, tennis, horse riding, ice skating , summer dinners on the veranda, and
winter dinners by massive fireplaces. We will miss the best foot reflexology spa ever –
Sun Reflexology – just at the bottom of Maple Avenue and the Post Road (now a Sunday
tradition), not to mention a number of great restaurants in town and in Southport and
Fairfield, just down the road. And New York City an hour away.
We will miss dear neighbors who have become the closest family friends. Our kids have
grown up together, and we ski together when we find ourselves in Colorado at the
same time.
WHAT MAKES YOUR PROPERTY SO SPECIAL?
For our family, living at 2 Bayberry Lane has been a fairy tale dream come true. With
everything else that Westport has to offer, we found a little piece of heaven we’ve called home
since 2006. There is always something blooming in the yard until the leaves fall, and the views
of the property throughout the house are uplifting and wonderful. Holidays and other gatherings
are magical – there is no other way to describe the stories and memories that have been created
here. We have enjoyed feelings of oasis-like privacy on a property located in the midst of one of the
Northeast’s most dynamic and vibrant communities. And so close to everything we needed and wanted,
including New York City.
