Interview with the Homeowners
Q :
Q: Why are you movng?
A: My children are nearly finished with college and want to spread their wings once they enter the
working world. So, it’s time to downsize and be closer to family. It’s time to let another family
enjoy the wonders of this paradise.
Q: What made you fall in love with this place?
A: Just step inside and look out at the water, nature, birds. It’s mesmerizing and unique. There
are views of Bermuda Lagoon, the marshland, Long Island Sound, Shorehaven Golf Course,
Long Island on a clear day, Cockenoe Island. It’s one of the most unique views in Southeastern
Connecticut. Because the tide changes every 6 hours, the water is always moving and the view
is constantly in motion. The big sky view is unique as well. The natural views make you feel
like you are in paradise.
Q: Do you like the neighborhood?
A: It’s perfect for raising a family or for weekenders coming to escape the city. Because there is a
neighborhood association that shares a small, private beach and boat dock, it is easy to meet
everyone or keep to yourself in your own secluded sanctuary. It is a beautiful neighborhood
in Saugatuck Shores and the association makes an effort to bring interested families together
quarterly for an outdoor barbecue, holiday party or nature lecture. They recently brought in an
expert from Audubon to talk about ospreys nesting off of the shared beach. We have an osprey
couple that comes back every year. Over the last two years, they have had three baby fledglings.
They are magnificent to watch and we can fish right in our back yard! a We have many people
who are dog lovers who walk their dogs regularly as well as people who enjoy walking and bik-
ing. The little shared beach is a perfect place to bring young children to play. You can barbecue
or simply go there to watch the sun set.
Q: Does the beach get busy?
A: No. it seems like everyone in the neighborhood is fairly busy. While there are quite a few
kayakers, you rarely see more than a couple at a time in the water. And, you only see a hand-
ful of people at the beach from time to time.
Q: Explain the lifestyle.
A: This is a community of fairly busy people who live here because the beauty of nature forc-
es them to unwind and take it all in. People are friendly yet respectful of others’ privacy.
Some neighbors have formed deep friendships. Others are simply friendly and kind but keep
to themselves. In a nutshell, one can carve out a lifestyle that suits their needs. You can
choose to be involved in the neighborhood or enjoy the serenity and calm of nature.
