AN INTERVIEW WITH HOMEOWNER
WHAT MADE YOU FALL IN LOVE WITH THIS HOME?
We wanted something with character, and the fact that it was an updated
antique colonial with a nice mix of original and modern features was a perfect
mix. The historic architectural detail and flow as well as the large flat, park-like
backyard with mature trees was perfect for our family and entertaining. Our previous
house had little storage and this home has more storage than we could ever need.
I think the "party" barn was the a huge factor as well - it has been ideal for family and
friends visiting and also served as the perfect au pair quarters for many years. Now it's the
fun place to hang out with friends or a lazy Saturday afternoon... you could actually have a
weekend away steps from home!
WHY ARE YOU MOVING?
This was a hard decision, but with our children getting older and one of us now traveling
more and more for work, we are finding that the house is getting to big for us on a daily
basis. We now have a summer house that we like to spend more time in, so have decided to
transition to a smaller home for convenience. We absolutely loved raising our children here
and certainly have fond memories throughout the years!
WILL YOU MISS THE NEIGHBORS / NEIGHBORHOOD?
Absolutely... being in lower Wilton was so fantastic - the location was extremely convenient
to get to the train for commuting or for hopping on 95 or the Merritt to get on our way. We
also wanted to live in a community where no matter where we lived in the town, our kids
would not have to switch schools. The friends we've made are very dear to us and we will
be staying in the area to stay in touch with everyone.
TELL ME ABOUT THE GROUNDS...
The grounds are spectacular. We will miss the flower gardens throughout the yard and
property. There are hundreds of peonies and irises that bloom each spring, and over time
we have lined the flower beds with the rocks from the yard for a beautiful natural look.
Each spring, we dug the flower beds and turned them over for a fresh look. We will miss
the roses that bloom along the long fence. Butterflies and bees love the milkweed and
butterfly plants. The copper beech tree is a sight to behold. It's like living in a park. There
is a nice mix of young and mature plantings.
WHAT MAKES YOUR PROPERTY SO SPECIAL?
The fact that the original house, which was built in 1780, still has much of the original
character and charm. The location is really convenient, and the yard is so quiet and private.
We've had some incredible parties here, with plenty of areas to enjoy whether its a small
group or a huge gathering.
DID YOU EVER CONSIDER PUTTING IN A POOL?
We did consider it because the yard would accommodate a pool perfectly, but ultimately decided
against it. The barn would make a perfect pool house!
