AN INTERVIEW WITH THE HOMEOWNERS
What made you fall in love with this property and house?
No discussion — there is NOTHING COMPARABLE in SW CT. There are more expensive areas and
“waterfront” properties. We looked extensively from Stamford to Guilford and beyond. But we wanted
a laid back, no pretense, relaxing, vacation-like waterfront experience that would be genuine,
comfortable, and affordable. The expanse of beach views, “toes in the sand” accessibility, and
absolute ownership of beachfront sold us.
Will you miss the neighbors?
As much as our home itself. The “Bluff” neighbors are all affluent professionals like
ourselves, who immediately welcomed us into the fold and became treasured friends.
We all respect each other’s need to privacy, yet come together to “play” in impromptu
times and places that simply make it feel like you have known each other forever. Yet
the entire Lordship community is warm, fun-loving, and fantastic. We have felt like
a part of a very unique and special family since the day we stepped foot in our
home. Not like any community we have ever lived in.
Did you ever consider putting in a pool?
Absolutely. We even got plans approved through Planning and
Zoning, now expired, that would not have used the traditional
“surrounding fence” that would have marred the WELCOME TO LORDSHIP,
extensive, contiguous view across the Bluff houses. NANTUCKET IN CONNECTICUT
(Ask us about the “Ha-Ha Construction.”) However,
once we lived here, we said… “Why?” Founded in 1639, Stratford is a
community rich in history and abundant
natural beauty. Situated on Long Island
Sound, and bounded to the east by the Housatonic
River, Stratford has long viewed its waterfront as
an important natural resource. The Town’s location on
Long Island Sound affords residents and visitors alike with
two public bathing beaches, five marinas, several fishing piers
and two public boat-launching facilities. Within an hour’s drive of
New York City, Stratford is the easternmost town in Fairfield County-
Connecticut’s Gold Coast. Major highways such as I-95, Route 8/25 and the
Merritt Parkway bisect Stratford, and provide convenient access to the entire
Northeast corridor. The deep water harbor of neighboring Bridgeport provide
excellent docking and terminal facilities for either domestic or overseas shipping,
in addition to ferry passenger service to Long Island. Rail service provided by Metro
North with connections to Amtrak further round out an excellent array of transportation
choices.
The diversity of Stratford’s natural resources is as rich as its cultural heritage, ranging from
the 250 acre, town owned Roosevelt Forest to the Great Meadows Salt Marsh, one of the largest
salt marshes remaining in New England and now a portion of the Stewart B. McKinney National
Wildlife Refuge. Stratford is host to a variety of cultural attractions as well, including the Boothe
Memorial Park, a Municipally owned park and museum showcasing an assortment of architecturally
unique structures and vast collection of Americana.
