THE PHOTOGRAPH EMBRACE YOUR BLESSINGS

“This one is from Istanbul, thirty years ago. I
travelled a lot in my twenties, visited many
countries. But this place has a special place in my
heart; it’s where I discovered what makes me happy.
We are blessed to live as free as a daisy,
I always travelled with big groups— friends, family Yet we don’t Thank God.
or anyone who would tag along. But this was the
first place I went to alone. I spent ten days in the
city, of which every single day was extraordinary. I
went to the beach, bought souvenirs from the We are blessed to see the world from the window of our soul,
markets, and visited the ancient ruins and To speak wondrous words from our mouth,
monuments. But what I loved doing the most was to
look at the sea before sunrise. Yet we don’t Thank God.

I found a deserted cliff, where I sat and stared at the
magnificent scene before me. Not at sunrise, just We are blessed to hear the chirruping of the birds,
minutes before. That was when, I believed, nature
woke up. How the dark blue waters blurred into the Pitter patter of the raindrops,
slightly lighter but equally majestic sky; how the The rumbling of the thunder and
haze that covered everything seemed to soften the
rich colours of the scattered trees and rocks that The crackling of the lightning,
decorated each cliff, was miraculously beautiful.
That moment, when I could hear the waves lightly Yet we don’t Thank God.
crashing at the rocks beneath my feet, when I could
hear everything and nothing at the same time, was
when I found out that I was, in the truest sense of We are blessed to feel the wind howling like a majestic wolf,
     the word, happy.
                                                                              To have all the delicacies,

This picture is just a failed attempt to capture the To travel around the world on our own feet,
beauty of that moment. But it was my mistake to
expect so much from a little piece of paper. Even Yet we don’t Thank God.
though it does not show me what I saw that day, it
does something that I am eternally grateful for— it
makes me relive that moment.” We are blessed to have adorable parents,

She closed her eyes, breathed in and smiled. Her Crazy and fun loving cousins and friends,
expression seemed to be one of pure bliss. She was Glad to live in the hues of spring,
thinking about that day in Istanbul. Black and white
dots covered the page, and those very dots had the Yet we don’t Thank God.
power to take her back in time, to a place thousands
     of miles away.
