WEBINARS FOR STUDENTS
CELEBRATION OF READING WEEK
Gustave Flaubert once said, “Read in order to live”. Believing in
this adage wholeheartedly, the teachers of Mata Jai Kaur Public School
took the initiative to reach out to the students and re-emphasize the
wonderful benefits of reading. 19 June is celebrated as Reading
Day and the following week as the Reading Week to honor the
father of the Library Movement, the late P.N. Panicker and
acknowledge his contributions to the cause of literacy, education
and library movement. Started as a Reading Day Celebration on
19 June 1996, it has become a mass movement to promote the culture of reading. The 25 th ‘Digital’
the P.N. Panicker Foundation by conducting various webinars to highlight the
importance of literature among the future. generation.
The students of Middle school enthusiastically participated and attended
three webinars for the occasion. Class VI students enjoyed the webinar
–Stories from India – A storytelling session for school children by
Vikram Sridhar on 28 June 2020. Mr. Vikram began the session by
narrating a few stories using a lot of expressions, hand-movements and
sounds. With his energetic and powerfully interactive narration of
stories, the storyteller won the hearts of all students and teachers alike.
Class VII students attended the webinar-‘Literature Enhances
Reading Habit’ by Dr. Padmavathy V on 25 June 2020. She spoke
about the difference between materialistic literature like pamphlets and
brochures and pure literature which includes verse and prose; how the former is used to boost profits as marketing
strategy and the latter enhances the personality of a person at all levels- spiritual, mental and emotional. She also spoke
about how reading develops empathy in readers and helps them to understand feelings and emotions of others on a
deeper level.
Class VIII students got the opportunity to attend the Webinar- New Dimensions in Education by Shri B.S.
Bhasi on 26 June 2020. He elaborated on the evolution in education-beginning with the Gurukul system
developed in India 3000 years ago and how technology has now become an indispensable part of Education system.
Mr.N.Balagopal also joined him as a speaker and explained today’s scenario and the opportunities it brings
with it. Before ending the informative session, a Q&A session was also held and many students’ doubts and queries
were clarified. All the students of classes 6-8 received the certificate of participation for attending the
webinars.
