This appealed to me very much. I studied in secret

with Illa for ten Andalap years, while doing my own

research and reading. The students met at one anothers'

homes. The education inspectors knew about this, but

could do nothing. After all, we were out of school now,

and it is a free society so long as there is no public display

of emotion or dispute.

But there was one area that I was very interested in.

That was the education system. When Twinkle started

school, I was helping with the beginnings of a reading

program. I saw at close hand how the children were

restricted from feeling. I saw that Twinkle's parents were

much more open and easy with these things. And I saw a

lovely little girl becoming more and more shut down as

the school days passed. I talked with Polly and Phil, who

were dismayed at the change in their daughter. It was
time for them to go home, and for me to use my skills to

help them. I knew I would learn a great deal from being
on the home planet of my parents. I think the people in

charge at Andalap thought that some time on earth would

help me to understand the need for careful management
