Colorado DeMolay,
Another year has gone by they seem to pass faster every year. This year, our State Master Councilor resigned just a
few months into the year and left a pretty good void in the State Line. I decided to leave the position vacant and
have the young men from the State line pare back on some of the events on the calendar and fill in all the necessary
commitments. It was not easy for them but they managed to meet all of the appointments and visitations. It is
always a full calendar for our officers, but every month we receive requests for the State Line to attend other events
outside of what has already been slated. I would say on a good month, the State Line has roughly 4-6 required
events on their calendar, from the Springs to Fort Collins and even Grand Junction. I find myself repeating this year
after year, but just as in the Chapter, each term for the State is different. With the coming of a new Master
Councilor, the dynamic of the jurisdiction changes, this can sometimes prove to be a challenge. Each new State
Master Councilor has a different vision of how they want to leave their mark on the Jurisdiction, but the same thing
is told to every new State Master Councilor and Deputy. “You must be good Stewards of DeMolay and leave this
Jurisdiction in better shape than it was when it was handed over to you.” You should leave office at the end of your
term knowing that you gave it 110% and be able to look back and be proud of the accomplishments you made in
leading the Jurisdiction. Being a Jurisdictional Officer is not as hard as most people think. It simply requires the love
of DeMolay, being able to apply all the lessons you have learned in your Chapter, consistent communication, and the
willingness to complete the tasks you set out to do. If you take time to do these things, you can really make a
difference in your Jurisdiction and in the experience of the younger members.
We were fortunate enough this year to have one of our own join the ranks DeMolay International as the
International Congress Secretary. Mason is the first ICS in Colorado’s history. I would hate to guess how many miles
Mason has traveled in his term as ICS. His first trip right out of the gates was to Brazil and Paraguay. He’s been to
every corner of the United States and everything in between, all while still managing to attend the majority of his
home Chapter meetings, visiting other Chapters around Colorado, and helping where he could. Mason has now
handed his International position over to another young man and has returned to his home jurisdiction, where he
will resume helping to better the Jurisdiction of Colorado by joining the State Staff. Because of his experience and
success with promoting and marketing DeMolay, he will help with social media, chapter communication, and
advertising. I am confident that his leading the way for promotion, marketing, and general communication, Colorado
DeMolay will benefit and our State Officers will have a place to go for other help when it is needed.
Thank you to all the Advisors for taking so much time out of your busy schedules to help the young men of Colorado
DeMolay. Without your time and help, the young men could not have such great opportunities offered to them.
Their DeMolay experience is that much greater because of you. I also want to thank all of our Masonic Family for all
the wonderful support that is given to Colorado DeMolay each year. We are fortunate to have such incredible
Masonic support for our young men. I can’t express my appreciation enough. As we head into a new year full of
promise and excitement, I wish you all the best and I truly look forward to working with you.
Sincerely and Fraternally,
Jon R. Sellars
Executive Officer, jurisdiction of Colorado
