Sweet Soy Dip
Sambal Kecap Manis
Sweet Soy Dip is a versatile condiment and is widely used in Indonesian cuisine. For
those of you who have had the opportunity to visit Indonesia, you may be familiar with
this sauce from eating the grilled meats on skewers (satay). However, this sauce is
also used extensively for grilled and deep-fried seafood dishes. When properly
stored, the sauce can be kept for several months.
MAKES 1 ½ CUPS (375 G)
PREPARATION TIME: 10 MINUTES
1 cup (250 ml) sweet soy sauce
3 shallots, thinly sliced
2-4 bird’s eye chili peppers, finely chopped
1 small fresh tomato, finely diced
Mix all the ingredients together well in a bowl until smooth. This sauce is typically
used for all types of meat skewers and roasted meats.
