The Swedish company Boliden offers customers
green copper
Swedish company Boliden has launched
two green copper products for customers
looking to show case carbon dioxide in their
derivative chain.
The first product is recycled metal from
electronic scrap. The second is copper
mined from emissions. The relevant
certificates are issued by Intertek.
As stated by Martin Eriksson, Boliden’s
copper sales manager, the mining of the
metal is mainly from hydroelectric power
plants. Receiving electricity from coal-fired power units, this figure,
on average, reaches 4 tons.
Almost half of the production of cathode copper at Boliden
enterprises, receiving about 350 thousand tons of metal per year
can be considered low-carbon. So far, the company has received a
small premium on selling its green copper products but expects that
in the future the demand for low-carbon metal will grow, which will
make it possible to raise prices for it.
