Transportation
A SRC Pillar of Service
“I love the service and the drivers.”
“I appreciate using the bus – due to my health I am unable to drive.”
“I use it to get my grandson to class.”
These are just a few of the many com- ments riders shared with us about using Pretzel City Area Transit, provided by the SRC.
For many, Pretzel City Area Transit (PCAT) is their only means of transportation. This is particularly true for seniors as it makes an independent active life style possible. During the three month period of
January 2016 – March of 2016 PCAT pro- vided 10,005 one-way rides to people sixty years of age and older. Unlike our other pillars of service, transportation is avail- able to all residents of Stephenson County and for the same three month period PCAT provided 22,030 one-way rides to individuals accessing medical facilities, retail outlets, work, and school. It’s corny, but the wheels on the bus truly do go round and round in Stephenson County.
If you would like to use the bus system, call 815-235-ride to schedule a trip.

Transportation is one
of the “pillars of serv-
ice “provided by the
Senior Resource
Center in Stephenson
County. The Senior
Center is proud to
introduce you to one
of the Pretzel Area
Transit drivers, Bob
Cable. Bob is begin-
ning his 10th year of
driving for the Senior
Center. He gives cred-
it to Bob Niblo, a past
director of the senior
bus program who
trained and hired him
that many years ago.
Even though Bob Niblo has been retired for a few years, the two Bobs remain good friends.
Bob loves to drive and is enthusiastic about the value of transportation in the lives of seniors. Of the Pretzel City transit, he says it is “ the greatest service in the world,
taking people to appointments, hair-dos, restaurants and all the other places people need to go. “ Giving this free- dom and ability to people is fulfilling and he likes all the
people that he meets.
Bob began driving after retiring from a successful career working for franchises in real estate. His work
took him on 2,460 plane trips around the United States and Canada. He also started 2 companies.
One was a company that provided a phone system for booking hotels and another built Modular
housing in the former East Germany.
Bob grew up on the South side of Chicago. He met his wife Barb after high school. She is
