THE CxOs’ GUIDE TO SUCCESSFUL ERP “SELECTION &
IMPLEMENTATION
Introduction
The purpose of the CxOs’ guide is to provide top management an understanding of the benefits of an ERP, how to
select an ERP, how to implement successfully and what risks are involved and how to mitigate risks.
The reader must keep in mind that the rate of failure of ERPs is over 50% in terms of dissatisfied CxOs’. A major
cause for the high rate of failure is because of the Client not taking the necessary precautions of how an ERP must
be selected and implemented. This guide provides the essential/mandatory guidelines to prevent the ERP failing.
ERPs bring in lot of benefits to the Organization only if there is good understanding among all stakeholders how to
effectively use the ERP. This includes why the ERP is introduced and how it will provide key information to all
levels of employees, to improve their decision making on a day to day basis and even facilitate strategic decision
making. Day to day decision making can be made by a Sales Rep to check the Inventory availability prior to
invoicing and Strategic decision making can decide what type of items move in each province during what period or
season and thus import necessary raw materials just in time for production.
Mobile computing is now making inroads into our daily life and one of the best examples is the banking sector. The
ERP you implement must make full use of the Mobile device to bring the Customer close to you. For example
instead of the Sales Rep making orders, your Mobile application can now be in the hand of the customer. The
customer can make direct orders to your system, thus eliminating or reducing our dependence on the Rep.
