Strategies that could be used to ensure effective differentiation.
Differentiated teaching is how teachers target their instruction to extend the
knowledge and skills of every student in every class, regardless of their starting
point. Differentiation benefits students across the learning continuum, including
students who are highly able and gifted. When differentiating teaching to suit the
needs of individual students, teachers use a variety of strategies to help students
become personally invested in, take ownership of their learning and allows
students to process the lesson content individually, in a small group and in a large
group which will best benefit them.
Some strategies are:
Strategy 1
Providing appropriate videos to explains content
The teacher can provide different learning stations and divide sections of the physical classroom
through which groups of students rotate to implement this strategy. For an online class the
teacher can share this from the device he or she may be using during virtual teaching. This
strategy can be used to share content. He or she needs to look for appropriate videos that match
the content and topic of the grade level. This can be done for all grade levels.
Watching a video- There are different types of learners with different abilities in the
classroom. Some of them may learn by watching a video based on the content/ topic they
are doing. Videos increase the learner’s engagement, which in turn help boost
achievements. The learners will be more interest in the material, they will be able to
process and remember it better. The teacher can pause, rewind or skip throughout the
video to have discussions or review some areas where necessary. (Next Thought Studios,
