                                 GRADE 3 MATH’S WORD PROBLEMS

                   Solve the following problems:

                       1. There are 167 books in one classroom and 392 books in another. How many
                          books are there altogether?

                       2. Arthur baked 35 muffins. How many more muffins does Arthur have to bake

in order to get 87 muffins?

                       3. There are 10 stickers on a page. If you have 22 pages of stickers, how many
                          stickers do you have?

                       4. If you lose one of the pages, then how many stickers would you have?

                       5. There are three school buses taking students on a field trip to the zoo. If each

bus holds 12 students, how many students in all are going to the field trip?

                       6. Jane has 27 marbles; Roy has 15 marbles and Sue has 10 marbles. How many

                          marbles are there altogether?

The teacher can use of the Think-Pair-Share strategy when dealing with word problems. These

complex situations can sometimes be difficult for those learners who are struggling with the

concept, and this strategy can help those learners to be successful in it by choosing their peer to

work along with so that they can work together to find the correct answer and grasp the concept.

Pairs can review the steps to finding the sum, product or quotient so that both of them can have a

               better understanding.

                                                                                                            9
