Susan Landis Youth Philanthropists
Susan Landis Youth Philanthropists is designed to encourage high school students to
become involved in giving back through community service and to cultivate a
philanthropic mindset. Led by Beth Jarrell and Amanda Sauchuck, the group has monthly
meetings on the value of volunteering, developing leadership and communication skills.
This year’s SLYP participants provided bottled water, snacks and decorated two waiting
room areas for the holidays at Raleigh General Hospital. SLYP also prepared snacks and
provided activity packets at Beckley Appalachian Regional Hospital, these activities were
for their “Do Good December” project. Other projects included provided Christmas crafts
for children at the United Way SWV Wonderland of Trees event, gathering donations for
the homeless shelter and providing over $1,500 in grants to local nonprofit organizations
supporting the arts.
SLYP members are students from Raleigh County High Schools. Currently, our students
represent Shady Spring, Woodrow Wilson, Liberty, and Greater Beckley Christian schools.
