Kelowna Aquatic Centre Fire
June 14, 1969

At 2:23 pm the Aquatic Centre fire was reported,
which started at the west end of the 4,400 seat Ogopogo Stadium.
45 Fire Fighters, with four fire trucks, fought the flames for nearly five hours.

Fire Fighters had to set up spray units to wet down and protect their trucks
as they battled the blaze. The heat was so intense, that it peeled paint off signs
and cars adjacent to the buildings. Damage cost estimates were $500,000.
The blaze was believed started by children playing with matches.
