This landmark fire interrupted the regular Monday night practice session at the Fire Hall.
When the alarm sounded at 9:40 pm most of the men were at the hall, ready for duty.
More than 50 Fire Fighters from Kelowna and Rutland answered the alarm.
Excessive smoke within the building’s basement kept the Fire Fighters from the source
of the blaze. Five fire trucks aided in battling the fire until the early morning hours.
Opening as the Palace Hotel in 1905,
the Royal Anne Hotel was one of the
finest in Kelowna.
The hotel was the centre of Kelowna
life with its lounge and 78 rooms in its
three storey structure.
