Volunteer Fire Fighters are, and always have been, the core of the Kelowna Fire Department.
Technically, we no longer are volunteers, we are paid on call, but in our hearts
we are here to volunteer, it’s what we do.

As with the career Fire Fighters, training is what we spend most of our time on. It’s all we
have, to prepare for those fire calls in the middle of the night, after a long day at our
regular jobs. It takes a toll on our families as there is only one thing we do
on Monday evenings...train. The rest of the week, we are always hoping for those
pagers to go off, for that call to assist, to do some good, to be of some help, to get in
there and beat that fire, but never really wanting to see that loss.

For our members, whether career-minded or as long-term volunteers, we have a
passion for the service we provide and the challenges we face at every fire call.
