Fire Prevention...
Fire Safety House
The first Fire Safety House in Canada
was built in Kelowna in 1984 by
Kelowna’s Professional Firefighter’s
Association.
This house is an educational tool for
teaching fire safety in the home to our
children. The children are able to go
through the house and put into practice
the escape methods taught in the
McBilly, the friendly
talking-walking fire hydrant,
donated by McDonald’s Restaurant,
makes an appearance along with the
Safety House, at schools during fire
awareness campaigns.
During the last 30 years fire prevention has changed from reactive to proactive.
The Building and Fire Codes reflect both standards for life safety
and maintenance in construction.
By-laws dealing with fireworks, smoke alarms, burning and items addressing
life safely have been initiated. Interface intervention and design have come to the
forefront in light of the events of 2003.
We are now responsible for fire cause determination.
Fire Prevention Services will take imagination and foresight to
maintain an acceptable level of service.
The most efficient way to put out a fire...
is before it starts and that is the goal of fire prevention.
