MASSIVE FIRE DESTROYS KELOWNA BUSINESS

At 12:30 pm on June 18, 1999, the Fire Department dispatched 30 Fire Fighters
and several vehicles to the north end business. When they arrived, the top floor
was totally engulfed in flames. The Fire Fighters faced waves of flames,
electrical arcs and small gas explosions.
Fire Fighters were not permitted to enter the building for fear of exploding
oxygen and acetylene tanks. The open second floor area, under construction,
created a tinderbox effect that engulfed the structure within minutes.
The $2.8 million dollar fire affected 100 people on that Friday afternoon.
