Facts about treatment
What treatment will my dependants and myself receive if we test positive for COVID-19 under the Prescribed Minimum Bene ts?
Treatment depends on severity – and as there is no cure at present – it is supportive for the condition presented. The doctor will advise based on symptoms.
For most people, symptoms last a few days and get better after a week. In the meantime, prioritise making sure the sick person drinks a lot of uids to stay hydrated and rests at home. Over-the-counter medications may also help with some symptoms, as fever is generally what makes people feel worse.
Where will I be treated?
Medical scheme members that need admission will be admitted to an allocated private hospital closest to him/her.
Non-medical scheme members will be admitted to a provincial hospital.
For those cases not requiring hospitalisation, patients stay in self-isolation at home.
If I am self-isolated at home, how will I receive treatment?
You would need to either receive your medication from your pharmacy or if your medical scheme has a delivery pharmacy service – this may be utilised.
What medication will be covered?
This is dependent on the speci c condition that is presenting to be treated and according to formulary medication (list of prescribed medication) protocols.
