We exist to give people a chance to enjoy retirement
and lead full and active lives. Every day, thousands
of people are taking part in the Active Retirement
experience and living life to the full.

At Active Retirement Ireland we aim to give voice to the concerns
of our members, whatever they may be. Over the last five years,
the importance of being advocates for older people’s rights and
entitlements has grown, with each year leaving the poorest and
most marginalised of older people worse off. We will continue to
actively challenge the idea that older people cannot contribute
to society in the same way people of all other ages can. We will
strive to rid our media of ageist attitudes that portray all older
people as a drain on society. What you and your Active Retirement
group do every week prove that older people are active citizens,
have a strong volunteer spirit and contribute to society, making
Ireland a better place.

While this advocacy work is important, the key purpose of Active
Retirement Associations has remained unchanged for 36 years.
We exist to give people a chance to enjoy retirement and lead
full and active lives. Every day, thousands of people are taking
part in the Active Retirement experience and living life to the
full. Our members, who range from their late forties to beyond a
century, all enjoy being part of this vibrant and active movement.
Hopefully this Annual captures some of that experience for you
to enjoy.

Best wishes for 2015,

Peter Kavanagh
