Herding goats and sheep in Italy
wide staircase with more than 50 steps, all made of stone,
leads up to the church. The houses are on the hill itself and
on its slopes, where some small neighbourhoods stretch for
several hundred metres. The view over the valley gives you a
glimpse of the Trigno river. It flows into the Adriatic Sea and
marks the border between Abruzzo and Molise to the south.

Towards the top, on other hills, you will find other villages .
The nearest towns are Trivento, 16 km away and Vasto 40
km away on the Adriatic coast. The mountains that can be
seen in the distance rise to around 1,300 metres. The
farthest horizon is more than ten kilometres away. The view
is breathtaking.
Some 500 m from the square, a magnificent fountain
provided water for the whole village, for both people and
animals alike. This situation lent itself to an endless coming
and going from early morning until sometimes late at night.
Today, the fountain remains. It has recently been renovated,
but the flow of water has dried up considerably.
Above the fountain, on the hillside, is our house, built of
stone with 60-70 cm thick walls. It's on the outskirts of the
village and quite isolated. In the 1950s, it was surrounded
by vines and olive trees, had its own well and was run like
a small farm, with a barnyard, a pig, sheep, goats and a
donkey.
