             Introduction
Livestock plays an important role for the nutritional security, particularly of the small and marginal
farmers in India especially in Tamil Nadu. The increasing livestock population around 5, 12,050 thousands
(20 Livestock Census, India, 2016) has led to rise in the cost of feed and its shortage. The increasing demand
               th
for livestock feed made an attempt to include the tree leaf meal from agroforestry system in complete ration
with low cost. Agroforestry, as a natural resource management system, solves the problem of fodder shortage.
Tree fodder obtained from agro forestry models are rich in protein and other nutrients, hence possess high
feeding value in ruminants. Among tree fodder Leucaena leucocephala is a leguminous tree fodder and
supplements protein to the animals. Total mixed rations (TMR), or complete rations, are defined as those with
all the forage and concentrate ingredients blended together, formulated to specific nutrient concentration, and
fed free-choice. Extruded feed is one form of TMR, can be prepared by mixing all feed ingredients together.
Hence the present study was conducted with the objective to prepare Leucaena leucocephala tree leaf meal
based extruded feed and palatability for feeding small ruminants.

             Materials and Methods
A total mixed ration was prepared with the following ingredient composition for goats based on the
nutrient requirement for maintenance purpose and presented in table 1. Leucaena leucocephala leaves was
collected from silvipasture model, shade dried and ground through hammer mill to prepare tree leaf meal.
Cumbu Napier hybrid fodder was also shade dried and ground to make coarse powder. The extruded feed was prepared
with incorporation Leucaena leucocephala leaf meal with other feed ingredients using single screw extruder.
