productivity and empowering resource poor rural farmers”
Results
The effect of MOLM supplementation on serum lipid profile in broiler chicken is presented in Table 1.
The MOLM supplemented groups (T3, T4, T5 and T6) showed significantly (P<0.01) decreased serum
total cholesterol than non MOLM supplemented groups (T1 and T2). Similar trend was observed in low
density lipoprotein and triglycerides level. However, the level of total cholesterol, low density lipoprotein
(LDL) and triglycerides among the MOLM supplemented groups were comparable.
The lowest serum total cholesterol (149.91 mg/dl) and triglycerides (125.19 mg/dl) was observed in T4
group compared to other treatment groups. The MOLM supplemented groups T4, T5 and T6 had significantly
(P<0.01) high level of high density lipoprotein (HDL) than T1 and T2. The T3 (750 ppm MOLM) group has
comparable HDL levels with T2 and other MOLM supplemented groups.
Conclusion
From this study, it could be concluded that supplementation of MOLM at different levels was found to
be reduced the total cholesterol, LDL, triglyceride level and increased HDL level in broiler chicken. Further
specifically, supplementation MOLM at 1000ppm had greater reduction in bad cholesterol and increased in
good cholesterol.
